The withdrawal of foreign capital from the gas industry in Spain in the first third of the twentieth century

Resumen

This study addresses the surge in the withdrawal of foreign companies from the gas industry in Spain during the first third of the twentieth century. Specifically, it analyses the foreign companies that owned gas factories in order to show the relevance of foreign capital in this sector and the origin of these investments in the period indicated. To do this, it studies eight companies from France, England and Germany respectively, that operated in this industry during these years. Among these, it is worth highlighting three of the most relevant companies, which were all French, namely Lebón y Compañía, Compañía de Gas de Málaga and Compañía del Gas de Zaragoza.
